Areas of traineeship (be as specific as possible): Medical physics in radiology and MRI
Aim of our activities is
(1) the optimized use of X-rays.
- Understanding of the physical processes behind the image
- Understanding and evaluating image perception
- The investigation and critical evaluation of new technology
- Patient specific dose calculation
- Exploration of new optimization strategies
We cover the main areas of radiology, namely breast imaging, CT, dental X-ray, interventional radiology, pediatric radiology and plain X-ray acquisitions.
We have the following systems availabe: a fully digital X-ray department, 5 digital mammography systems of which 2 with breast tomosynthesis option, a networking approach for quality control in breast cancer screening (102 systems connected), 6 CT scanners of which 1 with dual energy mode and soon also iterative reconstruction, cone beam CT systems, a modern cath lab and interventional suit.
(2) MRI applications
High end applications with physics research projects are diffusion and perfusion MRI for extracranial applications and functional MRI of the brain.
Duration (in number of weeks): to be discussd. ideally around 15 weeks. This allows to be integrated in specific projects.
